Description
Quiet forests, narrow ascents and jagged cliff edges
Narrow paths on soft forest floors lead through shady mountain valleys and the silent forests of the Siebengebirg mountains, past craggy cliffs in the central Rhine valley and through the labyrinthine vineyards of Rheingau. The frequent knolls enable visitors to enjoy spectacular views of the vibrant Rhein valley and the majestic peace of the mountain landscape of Tanus and Westerwald, which borders it to the East. Mineral water springs and therapeutic baths invite visitors to relax and recuperate.
Palaces, castles and world heritage
The Rheinsteig® offer the most picturesque way of visiting the cultural treasures of the Rhein Valley. Central European cultural history, the romanticism of the Rhein and a landscape that is brimming with history are gathered in a small area. There are 40 castles, palaces and fortresses in the Upper Central Rhine valley alone between Bingen and Koblenz. This richness is unique in the world and since 2002 it has been recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Limes, between Bendorf-Sayn and Bad Hönningen, has been a World Heritage Site since July 2005.
